Living Faith Adult Faith Formation Program

Tuesday, March 15, and April 12, 6:45pm, in Fireside Hall

Living Faith is Saint Clement’s newest adult formation program that seeks to encourage our faith lives and to bring our lived experience into conversation with our faith tradition. Each session engages a different topic and is held on the second Tuesday of the month.  Upcoming gatherings are on March 15 and April 12. All are welcome! Meet in Fireside Hall in Saint Clement School from 6:45-8:45pm. Dinner will be provided. If you know in advance that you will be joining us, please RSVP so we can plan appropriately for dinner.

Fasting

The Catholic Church's regulations on fasting require those between the ages of 18 and 59 to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day, with no snacking between meals. Catholics age 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. When we fast, we unite ourselves with others who suffer from want. We also sharpen our awareness of our dependence on God for all the gifts in our lives.

Praying the Way of the Cross

Every Wednesday of Lent at 6:30pm in the church
(except March 9 & April 20)

This tradition of Stations of the Cross allows us to make a pilgrimage in spirit to the scenes of Christ’s suffering and death. Through this pilgrimage we become aware that we are not alone in our own sufferings. Wednesdays during Lent (except 3/9 & 4/20) at 6:30pm in the church.

Little Black and Purple Books

These books contain daily reflections that help you remember to put God at the center of your life praying just six minutes a day, in communion with fellow parishioners can change your life. Books are available at the church entrance. The black books are for adults, purple books are for teens.

Prayer Journal

This workbook presents prayer as a powerful opportunity for renewal. You are invited to conduct a self-assessment and make resolutions to pray, serve and give. Then you translate these resolutions into commitments and reflect upon Lent through a scripture journal. There are journals available for adults, and a separate journal available for teens. Journals are available at the church entrance.

Draw Closer To Christ

The Draw Closer to Christ series will feature a small-group format of adult formation and faith sharing with other parishioners in understanding our relationship with God, and how the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus relates to our daily life. The sessions will be held on consecutive Wednesdays during Lent beginning March 16, and will take place in Fireside Hall from 7:15-8:45pm. Sessions will also be offered on Sunday mornings at 10:45 in the school library and Thursday mornings at 9:30am in the chapel.

Lent and the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

We are blessed to have in our parish several adults preparing for baptism, first Eucharist and confirmation. Their presence in our community becomes more apparent during Lent, when we witness and participate in the rites culminating in the sacraments celebrated at the Easter Vigil. Those preparing for the sacraments are called to go through a period of intense reflection before being received into the Church. The goal is for all of us to go through this period of preparation with them in order to gain a deeper knowledge and experience of Christ our Savior. These people, the Elect, are a primary symbol for us during Lent, representing our own baptism as we prepare with them for theirs. Please pray for our RCIA members during this time.

Serve

Donate-a-Day

The Season of Lent reminds us that Jesus calls us to serve one another. Saint Clement Donate-a-Day ministry offers many opportunities to serve in the community. Events are typically planned for weeknights or weekend afternoons for a 2-3 hour period, and are open to individuals, families, couples, or groups. Opportunities include making sack lunches for the homeless, hosting a Bingo party at an area nursing home, preparing and serving dinner at the Lincoln Park Shelter, assisting with a food distribution at the Lakeview Pantry, serving soup and sandwiches at the Franciscan Outreach Shelter, and more.

Give

Almsgiving: Monthly Food Drive

Upcoming collection: March 27
Local food pantries have reported at least a 20% increase in requests for food due to the economic downturn. For that reason, we have implemented an ongoing food drive on the 4th Sunday of each month to support local parish-operated food pantries. Please place all items in the boxes located in the back of the church on designated Sundays. Items needed: The usual non-perishable items are needed, such as canned fruits, vegetables, tuna, stew, soups, juice, as well as hygiene products such as deodorant, soap, toothpaste, diapers.

"Fill an Ark" for Heifer International

Saint Clement will give alms in order to “Fill an Ark” for Heifer International.

Heifer International is a global nonprofit with a proven solution to ending hunger and poverty in a sustainable way. Heifer helps empower millions of families to lift them out of poverty and hunger to self-reliance through gifts of livestock, seeds and trees and extensive training, which provide a multiplying source of food and income.

Families will receive information from the religious education program and the school. Collection boxes and materials will also be available for parishioners in the back of church.
