Lenten Reconciliation Service
Tuesday, April 5, 7pm, in the Church
How often do you say, “I have no peace and quiet in my life” or “I have to let go of this baggage”? The sacrament of reconciliation offers the opportunity to embrace the peace that eludes you in your everyday life, and liberation from the unrest that weighs you down. At a communal reconciliation service we stand in solidarity with our neighbors to face our failures and re-commit ourselves to living a Christian life. Christ invites us to let go of what hinders our relationship with him and open ourselves to the peace found only through forgiveness. The opportunity for individual confession will also be available with any one of six priests.
Join your community on Tuesday, April 5 at 7pm. Much of the music for the Reconciliation Service comes from the French ecumenical community of Taizé, and the service itself is in the style of Taizé Prayer. Taizé Prayer is filled with song, scripture, and silent meditation. The church is candlelit, making a space that is ready for meditative silence and singing. The music of Taizé is repetitive and chant-like, with simple melodies that are wed to simple texts, enabling us to enter easily into a spirit of profound prayer and meditation. As the words are sung over and over again, our meditative singing also becomes a way of listening and responding to God. There is intentional silence during the liturgy, allowing space for contemplation and conversation with God. Through the music, prayer, and reconciliation, we are given an opportunity to calm our minds and renew our spirits.
