Join us for the 6th Annual Clement Service Day on
Saturday, April 30, 2011! As a community of stewards, we are called to share our gifts of time and talent through service to those in need. On Saturday, April 30, Saint Clement will respond as a faith community to this baptismal call of stewardship.
Clement Service Day celebrates the core value of Saint Clement Church – Faith in Action. Teams of parishioners will make a difference with a day as they volunteer at a number of locations throughout the city, such as homeless shelters, childcare centers, soup kitchens and senior homes. Others will help children in grades K-8 learn the value of serving others by participating in age-appropriate projects here at Saint Clement. Everyone is encouraged to participate!
We hope to have our largest group of participants yet! Gather your family and friends and register, and we will match you with a service activity that will challenge you and give you the chance to practice the values of your faith. You can make a difference with a day!
The registration deadline for Service Day has passed. However, you can still sign-up to be part of this great day. Email

The schedule reveals some important elements of Clement Service Day, namely, the breaks for spiritual reflection and collective prayer in the beginning, middle and end of the day, which emphasize the importance of making service to others a regular habit for parishioners.
We encourage families to participate in this program. The day’s structure makes service accessible to children—for example, cheering up a lonely person or putting together a care package for a guest at a homeless shelter. Parents can serve off site while children complete supervised, age-appropriate service projects with their peers. Encourage your friends and your children’s friends to take part, and the impact will be even greater.
Your child must be dropped off no later than 11am and picked up between 4:30 – 4:45pm. Children must be of kindergarten age or older to participate, and any child who participates must also have a parent or guardian participating in Clement Service Day.
Please note that there are a few other forms to complete that ensure the safety of your child in the event of an injury, and that no child will be released without a signed dismissal form at the end of Clement Service Day. You must fill out the emergency and permission forms ahead of time or you will not be allowed to participate on Service Day.
Already registered?
Team captains will have their list of members the week before Service Day. Your team captain will contact you to let you know where you’re assigned and give you all needed information. If you haven’t been contacted by a team captain
by April 27, call or email as above.
Parking on Service Day
There are two weddings scheduled for 1:00pm and 3:00pm on April 30. We are asking that all Clement Service Day participants be considerate of the wedding guests and not park in the Saint Clement lot. We encourage you to carpool, walk, take public transportation or park in the Children’s Memorial lot.
Donations
Please consider donating the following items for this year’s Service Day. A team of parishioners will sort clothing in the Chapel while the children will sort several collections as part of their service activities at the school.
- Clothing Drive: As part of this year’s Service Day, we are collecting clothing through Friday, April 29. Needed items include men’s, women’s (regular and maternity), and children’s clothes in good condition. If possible, please bag them according to type of receiver.
- Household Cleaning Supplies: We are currently looking for household cleaning supplies for the Heartland Alliance for Human Needs & Human Rights. Heartland helps people living in poverty or danger improve their lives and realize their human rights, through freedom from poverty, access to health care, housing, and fair treatment in the justice system. Buckets of cleaning supplies will help formerly homeless and newly arrived individuals and families from war torn and devastated countries settle into their new homes. Needed items include: all-purpose cleaner, dish towels, sponges, pot scrubbers, disinfectant, dish washing liquid, tall kitchen garbage bags, kitchen cleaner, and buckets.
- Hygiene Products: The children will be putting together hygiene kits for the homeless through the Night Ministry. The Night Ministry provides basic and self-care supplies, free healthcare, housing and supportive services, referrals and more to Chicago’s vulnerable youth and adults. Kits are distributed from the Health Outreach Bus, on the street by the Youth Outreach Team, and from their Open Door Youth Shelters. We are currently looking for travel or sample-sized hygiene products. Needed items include: shampoo, conditioner, comb, small brush, hand lotion, lip balm, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, small bar of soap, disposable razor & shave cream, washcloth, and pre-moistened towelettes.
Please drop-off donations at Mass and during parish office hours, in the boxes in the vestibule of the church. Contact
Maggie Hanley with questions. Thank you for your generosity!
