When we use altar bread baked at home by members of the community, the eucharistic body of Christ is truly brought forth from the community of believers, the mystical body of Christ.
Baking bread for Mass is a way of making the eucharist more concretely "the work of human hands," as the great eucharistic prayer says. Ministers also become aware of the need for us to constantly nourish one another.
Skills Needed
The ability to bake and to follow the simple recipe provided to you is required.
Time Commitment
The bread takes approximately 45-90 minutes to prepare and bake, once every month.
