Join us for the 5th Annual Clement Service Day on Saturday, April 24, 2010! As a community of stewards, we are called to share our gifts of time and talent through service to those in need. On Saturday, April 24, Saint Clement will respond as a faith community to our baptismal call of Stewardship by volunteering at different organizations around the Chicagoland area and at Saint Clement in various ways. Join hundreds of Saint Clement parishioners as we spread Christ’s message of service and justice!

Clement Service Day celebrates the core value of Saint Clement Church – Faith in Action. Teams of parishioners will make a difference with a day as they volunteer at a number of locations throughout the city, such as homeless shelters, childcare centers, soup kitchens and senior homes. Others will help children in grades K-8 learn the value of serving others by participating in age-appropriate projects here at Saint Clement. Everyone is encouraged to participate!

We hope to have our largest group of participants yet! Gather your family and friends and register, and we will match you with a service activity that will challenge you and give you the chance to practice the values of your faith. You can make a difference with a day!

The schedule reveals some important elements of Clement Service Day, namely, the breaks for spiritual reflection and collective prayer in the beginning, middle and end of the day, which emphasize the importance of making service to others a regular habit for parishioners.

We encourage families to participate in this program. The day’s structure makes service accessible to children—for example, cheering up a lonely person or putting together a care package for a guest at a homeless shelter. Parents can serve off site while children complete supervised, age-appropriate service projects with their peers. Encourage your friends and your children’s friends to take part, and the impact will be even greater.

Your child must be dropped off no later than 11am and picked up between 4:30 – 4:45pm. Children must be of kindergarten age or older to participate, and any child who participates must also have a parent or guardian participating in Clement Service Day.

Please note that there are a few other forms to complete that ensure the safety of your child in the event of an injury, and that no child will be released without a signed dismissal form at the end of Clement Service Day. You must fill out the emergency and permission forms ahead of time or you will not be allowed to participate on Service Day.

Already registered?
Team captains will have their list of members the week before Service Day. Your team captain will contact you to let you know where you’re assigned and give you all needed information. If you haven’t been contacted by a team captain by April 21, call or email as above.

Parking on Service Day

There is a wedding scheduled for 3:00pm on April 24. We are asking that all Clement Service Day participants be considerate of the wedding guests and not park in the Saint Clement lot. We encourage you to carpool, walk, take public transportation or park in the Children’s Memorial lot.

Clothing Drive
As part of this year’s Service Day, we are collecting clothing through Friday, April 23. Bring men’s, women’s (regular and maternity), and children’s clothes in good condition to Mass or drop off at the parish office during office hours. If possible, please bag them according to type of receiver. If you have questions, contact Beth Hattel.

Hygiene Kits
We are currently looking for donations of new travel size products to make hygiene kits for local shelters. Needed items include deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body gel and lotion. Please bring donations to Mass or drop them off at the parish office. Contact Maggie Byrnes with questions.
