Servers have the opportunity to enter deeper into our liturgical tradition. They bear a great responsibility in highlighting the ceremony and assisting the liturgical ministers at Mass. We welcome adults, families and youth to serve in this important ministry.
Adults
Adults and children are invited to become altar servers at Saint Clement Church. For more information on becoming an adult altar server, contact
Flo Merkl-Deutsch.
Youth
Your child is invited to consider choosing the ministry of altar serving for Saint Clement Church. Students may begin serving when they are in fifth grade.
Training and formation are essential for the altar servers and all who participate in the liturgy. You are invited to share this experience with your child. We believe that it is important for you to learn the significance of the ministry and understand your child’s commitment and responsibilities. Please feel free to join us for one or all of the training sessions.
Commitment to serving is of the utmost importance. Your child is required to serve at their scheduled liturgies, or to allow appropriate time to find a substitute. Servers who do not find substitutes cause stress for everyone involved, including the presider and their fellow servers. We ask you to seriously consider your ability to commit to this ministry. We schedule via an online system called
Ministry Scheduler Pro. You will receive information on this system once your child has been trained.
In order to become a server or to re-register as an altar server, please follow the three steps below.
Step 1 – We expect that you will be able to do the following:
- My child will attend two training and formation sessions. (new servers)
- My child will attend one training and formation session. (returning servers)
- My child will serve when scheduled.
- I will input my availability into the online Ministry Scheduler when requested to do so.
- I will find substitute servers via the online Ministry Scheduler in an unforeseen circumstance.
- I will allow time to find a substitute and will try not to make any last minute changes (unless absolutely necessary).
- If no substitute is found, I will email Flo Merkl-Deutsch so that the parish leadership knows what to expect.
- My child will dress appropriately for their role as an altar server. (No sneakers/tennis shoes/flip-flops, etc.)
- My child will arrive to their scheduled liturgy 15 minutes in advance.
Step 2 – Select training dates.
- New servers select two dates.
- Returning servers select one date.
- Six registrations are permitted for each training session. Register Early!
- Please select another date if the date is no longer available.
- See calendar for upcoming altar server trainings. Please note, the default view is of the trainings available in the current month. Click the arrows above the calendar in the left-hand column to view other months.
Step 3 – Turn in the permission form
Download the
permission form and send to the parish office, school office, or have your child bring it with them when they come to training.
