Trip to Our Sister Parish in El Salvador
Join Fr. Ken Simpson and Fr. Manny Dorantes and several parishioners from Human Concerns for our 2012 pilgrimage to El Salvador, celebrating our 25th year of relationship with our sister parish. There will be opportunities for service such as assisting in the preschool for a day or working in the kitchen preparing meals for school children. Or perhaps you prefer the outdoors picking coffee beans and tending the chickens on the organic farm? The date of our trip is May 21-28. We would love to have you join us! Space is limited. Please contact Fr. Manny for further information.
Thank You for Your Generosity to The Romero Scholarship!
On behalf of our parish community and the young people who will benefit from this newly created scholarship in El Salvador, I would like to thank all of our parishioners who gave with characteristic generosity to this fund.
This commitment to mission beyond our immediate personal interest and recognition of our responsibility to share our extraordinary gifts with poor is a concrete enactment of our mission statement and parish spirituality of stewardship.
Through the 2012 Lenten Almsgiving project, our Parish School children donated $6,252.24 and our parishioners, including children from our Religious Education program, donated $31,743.40 to the scholarship fund, giving us a total of $37,995.64.
In addition to this generous contribution that will establish the scholarship fund, one of our parishioners has graciously offered to match this amount. Therefore the seed fund for the Romero Scholarship of Saint Clement Parish begins at $76,000.
This outpouring of financial support will create opportunities for 7 young people in our sister parish whose families survive on less than US $1 a day to attend college for 4 years—all expenses paid—thanks to you. As we travel to El Salvador to celebrate our 25 years of relationship we will share the good news with the young people of 22 de Abril.
In the weeks ahead, we will establish a board here and in El Salvador that will oversee the selection of recipients and the distribution of the scholarship money. Furthermore, we will keep you informed of the progress and continue to build relationships with our Romero Scholars and their families.
In their name, I thank you.
-Fr. Ken Simpson
HHS Mandate Issue
The USCCB has released a new bulletin insert on the current state of the HHS mandate issue. Cardinal George has requested that this information be shared with our parishioners. Hard copies are available in the church vestibule, and can be read online by clicking here.
Changes to the Mass Now in Use
You may have heard about some changes to the way we celebrate Mass. Although the essence of the Mass never changes dramatically, there are now revised words to some of our responses and prayers. Parishes throughout the English-speaking world have prepared for this transition, and our parish has been no exception. As of the First Sunday of Advent, the beginning of the church year, we have begun to use the revised Mass texts.
